Funeral services for Gene Lampp, age 78, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at First Baptist Church, at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008, with Dr. Bob McCartney and Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. A military graveside service will follow, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, at Gafford Chapel Cemetery. Kevin Smithson, Wesley Smithson, Robert Harbin, Jared Harris, Mike Gray and Bryan Richardson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Cobb, Delbert Davis, Norman Chandler and the Fellowship Class of First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Gene Lampp passed away at the Paris Regional Hospital in Paris, Saturday morning, August 16, 2008. He was born in Hillsboro, on September 26, 1929, the son of Emery Gilbert and Era Cummins Lampp. He married Willie B. Richardson in Ralls, on March 24, 1951; she survives. Mr. Lampp was a retired engineering manager, having worked at General Telephone Company. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Hopkins County Military Coalition. He was also a member of First Baptist Church and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Other survivors include: daughter, Vicki Smithson and husband, Teddy, of Lamesa; son, Eddie Lampp and wife, Tawlene, of Sulphur Springs; sister, Sue Buchanan of Odessa; brother, Joe Lampp of Cashion, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amy Harbin, Kevin Smithson, Wesley Smithson, Karla Harris, Tanna Lampp and Morgan Lampp; great-grandchildren, Dusty Harbin, Rylee Harbin and Aden Harris. He was preceded in death by sister, Florence Hageman and two brothers, Kenneth Lampp and Leo Lampp. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Music Ministry.
