Funeral services for Gene Goodman, age 89, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at League Street Church of Christ, at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 22, 2010, with Darrell Tubb officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Conner Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be James Ross, Steve Tubbs, Raymond Smith, Clyde Hathcoat, Bill Williams, Robert Cook, Don Crumly and Walter Grice. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Gene Goodman passed away Friday morning, August 20, 2010 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Flora, on March 24, 1921, the son of Jesse Goodman and Delphia (Tubbs) Goodman. He married Betty Jean Skaggs in Sulphur Springs; she survives. Mr. Goodman served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of League Street Church of Christ.
Other survivors include: daughter, Pam Medders and husband, Jimmy, of North Carolina; son, Chip Sims of Athens, Louisiana; grandchild, Elisa Cooper; great-grandchildren, Breanna Sims, Lauren Cooper, Marshall Cooper, and Caden Cooper. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Goodman and Clifton Goodman and two sisters, Edna Pettit and Irma Lee.
