Funeral Service for James Franklin Starrett, age 93 of Yantis, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Heard officiating. A military graveside service under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Reilly Springs Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 9, 2017 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Starrett passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Christus Mother Francis Hospital – Sulphur Springs.
Frank Starrett was born February 6, 1924 to Carl Irvine Starrett and Eula Florence (Ponder) Starrett in Wylie, TX. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II in China, Burma, and India after being drafted out of C.C. Camps. He married Velma Jane Bussell in July of 1947; she preceded him in death in 2003. Mr. Starrett worked as a paint and body mechanic for Dallas Power and Light for thirty-six years. He retired at the age of 58 and moved back to Yantis. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Yantis.
Mr. Starrett is survived by: son, Kenneth Starrett and wife, Tracy of Yantis; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Benny Ray Starrett; and sister, Melba Vaughan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Andrew Paul Starrett.
