Evelyn Raleigh

Evelyn Parthenia Coker Raleigh passed away on April 6, 2013. Born December 31, 1926 to Kenneth and Dora Mae Coker in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, she grew up in the Savannah and Chambers areas, graduating from Savannah High School. After graduation, she attended cosmetology school in Ponca City, Oklahoma and maintained her license until death.
Evelyn married Chester Walter Raleigh of Savannah, OK on December 22, 1946. They moved to El Paso, TX where they have lived for the past 66 years. Throughout her years in El Paso, Evelyn attended Rosedale Baptist Church, Loma Terrace Baptist Church, and was currently an active member of Scottsdale Baptist Church. She participated in choir and helped out with the Upward Basketball program. She was a leader in the PTAs of North Loop Elementary and Bel Air High Schools, an active 4H leader for many years, participated in the Home Demonstration Club, and worked for several years as a teacher's aide, substitute, and office assistant at Ysleta Vo-Tech School. Evelyn and her husband were members of the High-Flying Sams for 30 years and were life time members of the Good Sam organization.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, a son Harry Walter Raleigh, and a brother Nathaniel "Mack" Coker. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, a daughter and son-in-law Carol Ann and Gaylon O'Dell of Yantis, TX; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Raleigh of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Brenna and Cara O'Dell of Euless, TX, Kyle Raleigh of Tulsa, OK, and Jenny and Taylor Royal of El Paso; great-grandchildren Gracyn Raleigh, Creed and Eastan Royal, and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. "Noni", as everyone knew her, loved them all with a huge heart and was loved greatly in return.
Services are undetermined at this time. Condolences and memories can be made at the website of the Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home, www.murrayorwosky.com, in Sulphur Springs, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Legacy Hospice at www.legacyhospice.com or the American Cancer Society.
