Funeral services for Eva Nell Kennedy, age 92, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2012. Interment will follow at Tira Cemetery, with Jim Needham, Mike DeMott, Michael DeMott, Matthew DeMott, Price Orwosky, Jeff Fisher and Michael Mitchell serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Eva Nell Kennedy passed away at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Friday morning, February 24, 2012. She was born in Birthright on October 4, 1919, the daughter of Clovis Lawrence and Louella (Henderson) Lawrence. She married John W. " June" Kennedy, Jr. in Paris, on February 27, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1969. She was a retired teacher, having taught school for 44 years in several districts, including Winnsboro, Saltillo and Direct. She retired from Dallas I.S.D. She obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees from East Texas State Teachers' College. She was awarded a lifetime P.T.A. award and the Ross Perot Foundation Award for her outstanding service as a teacher. She was a member of League Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include: six nieces, Tina Byrd and husband, Jim Needham, of Arlington, Virginia;Martha DeMott and husband, Mike, of Plano; Markeda Fisher and husband, Jeff, Kayla Price and friend, Michael Mitchell, all of Sulphur Springs; Anna Penn and husband, Jerry, of Mineola and Lillie Shannon of Houston and great-nephews, Michael and Matthew DeMott, Price Orwosky and Lynn Johnson. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Gearldine Lawrence, Edwina Cross, Clarine Byrd and Glenna Jo Price.
