Estelle Baxley

Funeral Service for Estelle Baxley, age 104, of Cumby, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas with Joe Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Cumby Cemetery with Stephen Moore, David Lemon, Jason Rector, Kevin Meisenheimer, Jeramy Parrish, and Jacob Groves serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Ms. Baxley passed away at her home on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Estelle Baxley was born on March 9, 1920 in Cumby, Texas to George Washington and Georgia Ann (Martin) Romans. She married Connie Ray Baxley on September 22, 1934. She worked at Shirey Sewing Factory and later retired from Haggards Slacks both in Greenville, Texas. She then worked in the cafeteria at Cumby School where everyone knew her as “Memaw”. Estelle loved to garden and canning produce. She also loved to fish and take her grandkids fishing. She was an excellent cook and cooked fabulous meals for her family. Estelle loved being outdoors. In her elder years, she would sit on the porch for hours soaking in nature and enjoyed watching people and cars pass by. She was the oldest person in Cumby and loved to play Bingo at the nursing home. She was a social butterfly who loved being around people and people loved being around her. She took great pride and joy in taking care of her grandchildren over the years. Their love for each other was endless. “Memaw” will be missed by all who knew her. 

Estelle is survived by her daughter-in-law, Brenda Baxley; grandchildren, Rhonda Lemon (David), Stephen Moore (Lisa), D’Lanna McEwen (Tommy), April Anderson (Damien); great-grandchildren, Raisha Rector, Haley Meisenheimer, Lindsey Parrish, Dustin Moore, Wittanie Shaw, Tyler McEwen, Bailie Anderson, Gracie Anderson, Devon Anderson; and great-great-grandchidren, Jacob, Chloe, Kelcie, Ally, Macie, Bryli, Landon, Claire, Ryder, Breiley, Zoey, Becky.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Connie Ray Baxley; children, Anita Louise Moore and Travis Edward Baxley; grandchild, Randy Baxley; great-grandchild, Britany McEwen and Stephanie McEwen; sisters, Vera Hall, Edith Romans, Maria Goodman, Irene Davis, O’delle Strickland; and brothers, Hascal Romans, Pete Romans, Babe Romans, G.W. Romans, C.W. Romans, Deck Romans.
