Dorothy Pelton

June 23, 1936 — June 3, 2009

Dorothy (Dot) (Grandot) Pelton took her final bow on June 3, 2009. She loved to garden, she loved to read and yes, she loved to act. Dot was a master gardener and a charter member of Bright Star Garden Club, a volunteer for North East Texas Library System (NETLS) and a veteran performer in the Main Street Community Theatre. She is credited with her performances in Steel Magnolias, On Golden Pond, The Foreigner and the local production of Driving Miss Daisy, in which she starred. She made her film debut in Aledo Production's, "Roy ‘n' the Rev". In the past several years, she toured with production companies throughout East Texas. No stranger to guns, she campaigned her dog, "Kip," her weimaraner love, to the field trial hall of fame and she enjoyed dove and deer hunting.
Parties around the pool were weekly events. She was active in community affairs, symphony league volunteer, Sulphur Springs Public Library Board, Waverly Club, Downtown Merchants Alliance, university interscholastic league judge and others. She attended five institutes of higher learning, striving to achieve a degree in linguistics. Grandot was an ardent computer gamer and tennis player. Survivors include: husband, Roy of Sulphur Springs, son, Jeff Teasley and wife, Janice, of Rockwall; daughter, Juli Long and husband, Frank, of Sulphur Springs; six grandchildren, Sam and Amy Long, Shannon and Shelby Teasley, Christy and Misty Berryhill and six great-grandchildren, Austin, Tanner, Mason, Bailey, Garrett and Adaleigh.
She was preceded in death by brother, Robert Hemperly; grandchild, Shea Teasley and her beloved dog, Kip.
A scattering of ashes and celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
Memorials may be made to the Sulphur Springs Public Library.
Dot was a lover of words, books, friends and not least, the stage.
