Funeral services for Don Grimes, age 70, of Cumby, will be conducted at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Cumby Cemetery . Ernie Grimes, Danny Grimes, Daniel Grimes, Leon Higginbotham, Jason LeFlore and Tommy Aaron will serve as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Rosson, Jeremy Grimes, Edward Grimes and Fred Deluna. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (2 hours before the service) at Cornerstone Baptist Church .
Don Grimes passed away at Paris Regional Medical Center, Wednesday night, January 13, 2010. He was born in Longview , on March 4, 1939, the son of Albert Lee Grimes and Fannie Bell (Land) Grimes. He married Frances Marie Wigington at Rockwall, on October 5, 1957. She preceded him in death in 1999. He married Janis LeFlore; she survives. Mr. Grimes was a retired school bus driver for Cumby I.S.D. He was of the Pentecostal faith and he served in the United States Marines.
Other survivors include: two sons, Ernie Grimes of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Danny Glenn Grimes; daughter, Connie Sue McKibben, both of Paris; four stepchildren, Steven Armstrong, Kathaleen Marie Aaron, Jason Matthew LeFlore, Lisa Yvone LeFlore; five grandchildren, Shannon Marie Torres, Jeremy Grimes, Jennifer Nichole Smith, Celina Marie Grimes and Daniel Ray Grimes; seven step-grandchildren, Justin Gregory, Sandy Armstrong, Kayleena Routh, Jordan Aaron, Joselyn Shomo, Leigha Shomo and Ashton Shomo; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Grimes of Hawkins and two sisters, Virginia Foster and Elizabeth Wester, both of Bonham. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Henry Grimes and Bobby Grimes.
