Cobie Basil Mason, Sr. (C. B.) peacefully passed away on March 3, 2009. He was born on July 26, 1922 in Goodpine, Louisiana. C. B. was always proud of his Louisiana heritage. A devoted husband to Wanda Johnson Mason, they were married on May 28, 1948. The stork blessed them with five children: Cobie Mason, Jr., of Yantis, Marcus Mason of Tooele, Utah, Leslye Mason of Dallas, Lance Mason and wife, Andrea, of Garland, Anne Spence and husband, Kevin, of Winnsboro; grandsons, Mason and Marcus Spence of Winnsboro granddaughters, Shelly Mason and Jennifer Carmichael; three sisters and numerous other family members. He served in the United States Army during World War II. C. B. had a great love for training bird dogs, hunting, fishing and camping. He retired from Lone Star Steel after 22 years, worked as an employee for Gregg County and then managed Bell Supply in Winnsboro. Mr. Mason retired in 1992, and he and Wanda settled on the family farm in Yantis. C. B. served the Longview Community as a Little League coach, scout master, school board member of the Longview Independent School District, Justice of the Peace, Judson Lions' Club, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, American Legion and numerous other organizations. Mr. Mason was a member of the Seymore Church of Christ in Hopkins County. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Yantis Cemetery in Yantis. The family suggests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, Scottish Rite Hospital or the charity of your choice.
