Funeral service for Christine Askew, age 96 of Sulphur Springs, TX will be held at 10:00A.M. on Friday, December 24, 2021 at East Caney Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. M. Lavelle Hendricks officiating. Interment will follow at East Caney Cemetery with Jonathan Crook, Tristan Crook, Jaylon Hawkins, Braylyn Adams, Roderick Godbolt and Dedrick Godbolt serving as pallbearers. There will be no formal visitation.
Christine was born on December 6, 1925 in Ladonia, TX to Martin Gray and Vallie (Pruitt) Gray. She married Windell Askew Jr. on August 6, 1955 in Ladonia, TX. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the East Caney Missionary Baptist Church. Because Christine lived a life of love and humility, she was embraced by all that she encountered and was often reffered to as “Mother Christine”. She was a humble servant for the lord and was a member of the Eastern Star and Season Saints Ministry. She served the Usherboard and the culinary committee at the East Caney Baptist Church. She retired from Hopkins County Memorial Hospital after working for over twenty years. Christine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
The trumpets were sounded, and Christine was called home to be with the lord on December 22, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Esther Crook, Anita Godbolt (Ricky) and Lilly Johnson (Wyman); eleven grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Vallie Cherry, Reva Hollands and Dorothy Gray.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Buck Askew; several grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters.
