A funeral service for Calvin Prince, 75, of Sulphur Springs will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on January 22, 2013. Services will be by Rev. H. W. Scott and Rev. Gary Thompson. Interment will be at Posey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryan Prince, Blake Prince, Blake Barry, Kevin Keen, Tommy Sanderson, Johney Ferrell, Willie Williams and Danny Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the Commissioners Court, current and past county employees and the Pleasant Grove Coffee Drinkers Club.
Calvin Prince passed away at his home on January 19, 2013 after fighting extended heart problems. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends at the time of his passing. Calvin was born August 23, 1937 in Hunt County to Maggie Henry and Pete Prince. He attended Fairlee School and later transferred to Commerce ISD. He married Jo Ann Ferrell Prince, May 3, 1957 in Hopkins County; she survives. Calvin was a member of Beckham Baptist Church. Calvin was a retired County Commissioner of Precinct 4 for 14 years. He served his precinct and Hopkins County with great pride. He served on several boards during this time, one being the Community Chest. Prior to being a County Commissioner, he had his own parking lot cleaning and striping business. Before that he was employed by OilWell Supply, a division of United States Steel in Garland, Texas. While working for OilWell Supply, he served as loan officer/board member to the credit union. While living in Rockwall, Texas, he helped start a volunteer fire department in Chisolm-McClendon community where he served as the first fire chief.
He has served on Crime Stoppers and held the position of vice-chairman and chairman. He was serving on the North Hopkins Water Supply Assoc. board. Calvin was a loving, devoted, caring, wonderful husband, father and grandfather and an excellent provider.
Calvin was an individual who never met a stranger. He had a host of friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Calvin DeWayne and Robert Gerry Prince; two brothers; his parents; a brother-in-law; sister-in-law; his beloved in-laws, Homer and Pearl Ferrell and two nephews.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 55 years; grandsons, Bryan Prince of Sulphur Springs, Blake Prince of Denton ; granddaughter, Amy Prince of Mesquite; two great-greatchildren, Alyssa Jhade and Isaac Alexander; two sisters, Betty Fouse and Nita Shaver; brother, Harold Prince, all of Commerce; sisters-in-law, Della Wright and husband, Larry, Patsy Patridge and husband, Travis, brother-in-law, Ray Ferrell and wife, Polly; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
