Byron Morris Logan, 85, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, in Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs, TX after a lengthy illness.
Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 18 with Rev. Brian Bosworth officiating. The Hopkins County Military Coalition will provide military honors. Interment will be in City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Foster, Derek Fox, Brian Logan, Landon Logan, Scott Logan, Chuck Bennett, Gary Lewis, and Bill Watts. Honorary pallbearers are Melissa, Bennett, and Sarah Logan.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 17 at Murray Orwosky Funeral Home.
Morris was born May 13, 1925 to Ernest A., Sr. and Flora Williams Logan on the family farm in Como, TX. Following graduation from Suphur Bluff High School in 1944, he enlisted in the US Navy in July and served in the South Pacific for two years. Upon discharge from the Navy, he attended Collins Radio School in Chicago, Illinois and enlisted in the US Army in 1952 as a radio repairman and served during the Korean conflict.
While working for the pipeline in the upper peninsula of Michigan, he met and married Mary Lancour on October 31, 1953 at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone, Michigan. They moved to Dallas, Texas but soon decided to move to Hopkins County. He went to work for the Texas Highway Department and retired in May 1987 after 33 years of service.
Morris was a long time member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He loved his church and served in many capacities through the years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Mary Lou Foster (husband Stanley); two sons, Keith Logan (wife LaTresia) and Stanley Logan (wife Amy); eight grandchildren, Susan Fox (husband Derek), David Foster (wife Olga), Brian Logan (wife Emmy), Landon Logan (wife Summer), Scott Logan, Melissa Logan, Bennett Logan, and Sarah Logan; and two great-grandchildren, Lexie Logan and Ben Foster. He is also survived by one brother, Robert Bruce Logan (wife Arlene) of Sulphur Bluff. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, E.A. Logan, Jr. and Asa Logan; and three sisters, Yonna Jean Sweden, Edith Joslin, and Joanne Davidson.
