Funeral services for Billy Morris, age 84, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2009, with Rev. Tommy Hall officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will be held at Ridgeway Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Harold Brown, James Bagwell, Harold Cheatum, Eldon Ring, Larry Landers and Sheldon Cass. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill McLarry and Carl Mac Randolph. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2009 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Billy Morris was born in Oakland, on November 26, 1924, the son of Lewis Ransom Morris and Ida (Marable) Morris. He married Emma Jean Gordon in Hope, Arkansas, on October 30, 1947. She preceded him in death in 2005. Mr. Morris was a retired welder/owner of Gordon and Morris Wrecking Yard. He was a member of Davis Street Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include daughter, Kathy Hill of Richardson; son, Johnny Morris; sister, Mozelle Landers, both of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Sgt. Ransom Gordon Morris (U. S. Marines) and Vivian Jane Hale and great-granddaughter, Abby Jean Hale. He was preceded in death by grandson, John Allen Morris and 11 brothers and sisters. Memorials may be made to the Ridgeway Cemetery Association.
