Billie Sue Ray age 96 was born June 10, 1924 in Sulphur Springs and died April 9,2021. Services will be held at the Mrya Wilson Chapel in the City Cemetery Monday, April 12th at 10:00 am, with the visitation at 9:00 a.m.
She was the daughter of Margaret Kelty Ray and Shem Ray Sr. She was a lifetime and oldest member of the St. James Catholic Church. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in May of 1941. Her last class reunion was held May 1991. She worked 19 years for the J.C. Penny Co. and 31 years for Southern Optional Supply for Dr. James Crawford, owner. She retired in September 1991 and enjoyed several trips to Europe and one trip to South America. Her grandfather T.J. Kelty moved to Sulphur Springs in 1884 from Kentucky. He was a blacksmith for 60 years before retiring one year before his death. He was the father of 12 living children and one child died at birth.
Billie is survived by niece Sherry Mathis, and other numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eugene Ray, Shem Ray and sister Margaret Ray Sharp.
